Endworld - This hugely popular sci-fi action-adventure series by David Robbins is back, with an all-new, prequel, DOOMSDAY, slated for April 2009.
There's also a fabulously slick book trailer for Stacy Dittrich's debut thriller, THE DEVIL'S CLOSET, on the front page. Stacy is a former model with 15 years of experience in law enforcement, most recently in the sex crimes division. THE DEVIL'S CLOSET is based on one of her actual cases, and combines the crime drama of Law & Order: SVU with the on-the-job romantic entanglements of Grey's Anatomy.
So it figures that right after posting yesterday - just when we think we have the schedule all figure out - a monkey wrench is thrown in the works and everything changes again. It's such a ripple effect, too. Moving one title usually ends up affecting three others. And that's why in so many of the deals below, you'll see a season instead of a month. ;-)
Speaking of scheduling, my whole inspiration to write about it, which I then forgot to mention, was Warner Brothers pushing Harry Potter off to July 2009 and then the Twilight movie leaping into the vacated slot of the big Thanksgiving weekend. We don't usually get other publishers' schedules in time to change anything in our own lineup.
It's true that a lot of huge names in one month can definitely affect the number of copies we're able to get out to the bookstore. But then I've also heard from booksellers that being released in the same month as a big name can be a great boon because readers come out to the store and end up making a few impulse buys along the way.
